Proficiency tests and interlaboratory comparison measurements (ILC) are usually performed with several participating laboratories. The participation is mandatory for many accredited laboratories according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17011. The interlaboratory comparisons are an important element to maintain the quality assurance of measurement procedures. The procedure thereby evaluates the validity of the calibration processes and results. However, non-accredited laboratories can also participate in the proficiency testing and check the validity of the measurement methods.

Within interlaboratory comparisons and proficiency tests, identical test equipment is measured by different laboratories according to the same requirements. The organiser of the ILC compares the obtained measurement results of the different labs, evaluates the general measurement uncertainty and monitors the quality of the measurements of all participants.

Proficiency test for the measurand temperature: thermocouples

In this intercomparison, a proficiency test is carried out for the measurand temperature. Two thermocouples (type K and type S) are used as calibration objects whose temperature deviation is to be determined by immersion calibration. The reference values are determined by the temperature laboratory of Testo Industrial Services in Kirchzarten.

Timetable and procedure:
Start: beginning of July 2022
Application deadline: 10.06.2022

The proficiency test will take place in a circle, with calibration in the pilot laboratory before, after and in between. Each participant must perform the calibration and forward the calibration item within 21 days. An exact schedule will be sent to participating labs before the start. 

Task:
The calibration objects, two thermocouples, are to be calibrated by immersion in thermostatic baths or tube furnaces. The temperature deviation at the respective measuring points is to be determined and the temperature is to be calculated via the standard characteristic curve.

The measuring points are not fixed and should be selected on the basis of the accreditation of the relating laboratory. The calibration items is also freely selectable. Deviations or measurement point limitations based on your accreditation certificate can be entered directly in the application. 

Costs:
The interlaboratory comparison within the Testo Group amounts to 1.100 € per participating laboratory.
